#0001 – Generating Results Not Stories
Transcript
When trying to accomplish any unit of work, a new project, or growing a new business, what really matters is what actually gets done. What gets done is what matters in the real world, period. Those who get more of the right things done within the same amount of time, truly have a massive advantage. This has wide implications to your effectiveness and value in the world.
Here’s a simple example: You turn the light switch on, the lightbulb turns on and produces light so you can see. If you get distracted, slip, fall down, and twist your ankle before you get to the light switch, the light stays off, and it stays dark. The distraction, fall, ankle, and all the rest are simply a story, and really do not matter at all to the light bulb, it stays off regardless.
So the idea here is that the stories, the sidebars, the play-by-play we all generate for ourselves and others are entertaining. Those stories are the plot line to our own personal narrative we’ve created about whatever the current project is. They are like watching a bright action movie up on a big screen right in front of us. Once the movie starts, you’re in it, you believe it, you’re watching to the end. Sure the story makes it more entertaining, but in the end, the hero or heroine either lived or died, and that depended on what they accomplished.
So, that one thing you knew was important last week, and last month, did you do it? Did you check it off? Or would you like to tell a story?
